Lip Lift
A surgical lip lift is a cosmetic surgery aimed at enhancing the appearance of the lips by lifting and reshaping the upper lip area. This procedure is ideal for individuals seeking to achieve a more defined and youthful lip contour.
Unlike lip augmentation procedures that involve the use of fillers or implants to add volume, a surgical lip lift focuses on improving the proportions and symmetry of the lips by shortening the distance between the nose and upper lip, commonly known as the philtrum.
By lifting the upper lip and exposing more of the vermilion (pink portion) of the lips, a surgical lip lift can create a fuller and more aesthetically pleasing lip appearance.
During a surgical lip lift
There is a lot of planning and measuring prior to starting this operation. We carefully make incisions along the base of the nose or within the natural creases of the nostrils to minimize visible scarring.
The excess skin and tissue are then removed, and the remaining tissue is lifted and secured into a higher position, resulting in a more youthful and lifted lip contour.
This procedure can also help reduce the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles around the mouth, commonly referred to as smoker's lines, for a smoother and more rejuvenated overall look.
Recovery from a surgical lip lift
This typically involves a short downtime, during which patients may experience marked swelling, bruising, and mild discomfort.
However, these side effects usually subside within a week or two, and most individuals can resume their normal activities shortly thereafter.
Due to the special characteristics of this area is extremely important to stick to the post operative instructions regarding cold pack application, oral hygiene, soft diet, and head lift elevation.
Potential Risks and Complications
While surgical lip lift procedures are generally safe, like any surgical intervention, they do carry some risks and potential complications.
These can include temporary discomfort, swelling of various degrees, bruising, and numbness around the treated area, which typically resolve within a few weeks.
In rare cases, patients may experience infection, bleeding, adverse reactions to anesthesia, or asymmetry in the appearance of the lips. Additionally, there is a risk of visible scarring, although careful planning and meticulous technique can minimise this risk.
It's crucial for patients to thoroughly discuss these potential risks with their surgeon and adhere strictly to pre- and post-operative instructions to minimize complications and ensure optimal outcomes.
